Rey-Drive: Mahle Framebuilder

No – the Mahle system has a particular hub geometry that ensures the connection to the hub remains dust and waterproof and makes a firm electrical connection.

The Reynolds X20 drop-outs are designed to meet Mahle guidelines, based on the 12mm*142 industry standard.

With the PAS motion sensor you can use the cassette freehubs/magnetic lockrings we stock (mainly Shimano 11 speed, SRAM XDR). Please ask about other options if needed.

With the torque sensor you can use a PF30 or Reynolds have an adaptor to turn a PF30 into a T47. Please review the cable thickness and spacing around the torque sensor unit within the T47 shell.

Reynolds is offering the following DT’s: 525 CrMo 56×1.0mm plain gauge, 56 0.7/0.7/0,9 x 800 butted tube 3/2.5 Ti 56mm x 1.0mm plain gauge. We do not offer a 631/853 DT but we believe the 525 DT will meet most requirements.

We have built all our test and prototype bikes using standard Reynolds tubing from the catalogue with no issues. Each designer can choose the appropriate tubing that allows the e-drive system, cabling and connector/control points to be assembled and accessed for maintenance.

UK/ EU: Reynolds have stocks of the X20 system to buy direct. We have no MOQ on orders but assume that each Mahle drive system will be purchased with the relevant steel or titanium Reynolds’ framesets for these markets with couriers who use road/rail logistics. Note that the transport of Li-ion batteries are subject to UN380 regulations and generally cannot be shipped in passenger aircraft.

USA/ Canada: QBP are the sales agents for Mahle In USA.

UK/ EU: Initial point of contact will be Reynolds, with backup from Mahle. All end users should install the MAHLE “Mysmartbike” app, which allows users to change the power assistance levels and provide diagnostic data if needed. Error codes are listed in the User manual which should be sent to each end user.

Should an error occur, Reynolds will help diagnose the problem and submit a warranty claim to Mahle – this is for 2 years from the activation date for the system, with a unique serial number in each case.

USA: The initial point of contact will be QBP with backup from Mahle.

UK/EU Yes via Reynolds.

USA Yes via QBP.

We believe 650B is the smallest wheel size that works for the X20 system. But we don’t know every possible rim & spoke available!

For smaller wheels, consider the new X30 system (which Reynolds is evaluating at present). The X30 has a different hub with a lower torque rating (approx. 0.5kg heavier but uses all the other parts from the X20 drive system.

The X30 hub is bolted into vertical Q/R style dropouts.

In our testing we believe the maximum range on a road bike, in lowest power setting on a gently undulating route will be about 60 miles / 100km. This will reduce for MTB & gravel, level of assistance, and hilly routes.

Mahle offer an optional range extender bottle cage battery if desired.

No – the system is hack proof and Reynolds / Mahle will not honour any warranty if the system has been tampered with. The firmware can be interrogated to check if it has been tampered with.

On signing an NDA Reynolds can release the CAD for X20 and the Reynolds-specific parts.

Subject to discussion with Reynolds the outer shape of the dropout may be unique to your design, but the aluminium CNC inserts must be from Reynolds.

The dropout inserts have to be bought with a Reynolds tube set.

No, the Mahle system is designed to be a complete system and each part is coded to the others in the system. Reynolds will configure each set prior to dispatch. They must be kept together as a set. This protects the warranty and is also integral to the safe charging of the battery.
